Eee PC 1000 with Windows XP Home Edition: The Windows variant of the Asus Eee PC 1000 has one major difference when compared to the Linux model - storage. In most cases, the Windows Eee 1000 comes fitted with a standard 160Gb hard disk. On paper the Windows option may seem more appealing. However, consider this - SSD's have no moving parts which makes them less prone to break down or wear and tear and their lifespan is significantly longer than that of the IDE type disks. The difference in configuration is, in part, due to the costs associated with licensing Windows XP. The Windows version is, in most cases, the cheapest option but the standard hard disk in the XP netbook is not as reliable as an SSD.
